Week Nine Summary

This week was a much needed break from the time consumption that this class really does well at achieving for me. Apart from that much needed break with the reduced workload I found it a lot of fun to listen to mine and other’s radio shows and take part in the tweet along for it! I also really enjoyed reworking some past assignments (1, 2) that were, in my opinion, heavily outdated. I think the ideas and brainstorm I did with my project ideas could be a fun way to explore these upcoming weeks, but I guess we’ll just have to see! This week was again a lot of fun and making the story out of my TDCs was also so much fun!

Favorite Photo Part 2

Since I last shared my favorite photo, I have a new favorite photo, sorry to my extremely cute nephew Curran. My new favorite photo is a photo from a photoshoot my girlfriend and I did for Valentine’s Day, and it came out really well! Definitely Christmas card material for sure.

Game of Thrones House Rework

I really rushed through such a fantastic assignment a few weeks ago with building my own Game of Thrones house, and I had a lot of fun with it last time so I wanted to do it again! Here’s my newest house, house motto, and house sigil, it was again a lot of fun to play around with. I really like the aesthetic of the sword piercing into the sun on the background of the sigil, it’s a cool touch for me!

The Daily Create Thread

This red panda’s name is Mark. He is currently traveling on a beach chair with a battle-ax to Mr. Craff’s house, but he instead ended up arriving in the simulated world of Minecraft. Once he realizes this, he calls for help and is soon put on the right track to Mr. Craff’s house, another 500 million light years away. To commemorate such a momentous feat of travel from Mark and his accidental arrival in a video game simulation, the portrait photo taken of him in a beach chair with his battle-ax was hung in the Louvre, with Mark being immortalized as a hero.

Looking Ahead at Our Stories

With projects like the radio show, in which a longer narrative was employed to tell a story to the audience in an auditory reception to engage and entertain, so as well is it equally if not more effective in the form of a video, which involves both visual and auditory reception. It would be interesting to explore ideas for a video project such as telling a story over video in like a “storytelling” scenario where the video focuses on the storyteller reading the book of their story or something like that, and that story is narrated by that storyteller and there are pictures and animation that are used as visual and the storyteller becomes a sort of voiceover. I think that would be an incredibly interesting, yet time consuming, idea that might really make telling my story a lot of fun. I think such an idea would engage an audience but also maintain a digital footprint online that keeps my story, my story. My story will never disappear in that sense, and it will live on in that way as a reminder of the story myself, but also us as a group, told ourselves and lived in this class.

Radio Show Tweet Along

Never have I ever cringed as hard as I did listening to myself on the radio show my group and I completed. I realized just how inarticulate I can be when I am thinking and trying to come up with what I want to say, but wow the other group’s radio shows were fantastic! The radio show Walking Memory Ave really gave me some nostalgia and I enjoyed sitting and listening to how similar some people’s childhood experiences were to mine. I really liked the use of sound in that one, there was a soft jazz piano throughout the show that really released some serotonin. I liked the show a lot, however the whole monotonous one person’s story, then bumper/commercial, then next person’s story, etc. was a bit feeling like it was never gonna end (not that that is a bad thing)! Either way, it was a lot of fun participating in the tweet along for both listening to my own show and listening to other’s shows where everyone really did a great job!

Week Eight Summary

Oh boy, this week was probably my least favorite out of all of them. It was such a struggle trying to find a time with a group of four to record the radio show with, and the HCC struggles we encountered along the way as mentioned in the radio show post did not help either. The audio editing, while I usually find it okay and fun, was not particularly exciting and rewarding to do, as I was just listening to what I had already experienced and recorded over and over again trying to insert sounds in the correct places. Honestly, was not too bad but was not very fun. My TDCs can be found below.k

DS106 Quarantine Radio Show

It’s FINALLY done! It took a ton of planning and annoyance with the HCC staff and overall hardship and struggle to finally get this thing completed with the whole pandemic occurring, but we finally got it. We (our group) first planned on Saturday to meet at the HCC with the Vocal Booth in the Multimedia Editing Lab reserved to record it in there and then have someone edit it later, but the EagleOne card would not work to get in there and nobody was staffing the building on Saturday so we decided to come back Monday, and sure enough nobody was able to let us in Monday either because “they didn’t have a key to the door” and for some reason only a few classes were able to have access to that room. In the end, we decided to just record it in the comfy chairs right outside of the Editing Lab, and the editing was probably the bulk of the time in which it was my responsibility to do. Either way, this radio show was recorded and edited with Logic Pro and sounds were gathered from freesound.org. Enjoy!

Week Seven Summary

This week was a lot of fun to complete. Not only is the prospect of creating a whole segment of a radio show very exciting but also the design element and the audio assignments (1, 2) that will help craft the radio show were a lot of fun to complete. I am super excited to get this radio show done and am very anxious to see the finished result, I am sure it will be a lot of fun to complete and a lot of good work to see! Daily creates can be found below.

Staying Apart Pandemic Radio Commercial

It’s not so much a commercial, but a quick segment surrounding the initial ignorance about how long this pandemic would really last. I think it counts in my eyes because it will be used in the radio show our group is producing. I used Logic Pro to compile all the sounds and the fades to create this masterpiece. VoilĂ !
